Hi bill
cockatiel will be a first to me to so I was exited when I saw a male wild
type in kangaroo ground recently , it didn’t take me long to realize as it
was on its own and had no interest in feeding , moving that this was
probably an escapee
I attempted to lure him down from the trees and after he moved a little
then a little more I thought if I hosed him gently with some water he
wouldn’t be able to evade capture ......as soon as I turned on the hose he
dived down and landed on my back were he was happy to spend the rest of the
afternoon (after a drink )
Fortunately I was able to find his relieved owner via a internet lost pet
site
I was so hopping to see a genuine wild one though

Subject: Melbourne cockatiel
On the (rather sweaty) ride home along the Yarra tonight I spotted a
cockatiel at the new Melbourne Girls College boat ramp between Hawthorn
bridge and the railway bridge in Burnley. Unlike a cockatiel I found a
little further upstream, this was a complete wild-type female (the previous
one was yellow).
While a cockatiel would be a tick for me (sad, isn't it?), I'm inclined to
guess it's an aviary escape, although I was not able to approach the bird
without it getting obviously nervous. However, with the drought, who knows?
Has anyone else seen cockatiels in Melbourne of late?
Bill
