VS: first birds 2007

In Tromsø, N.Norway, the new year started like the old one ended; a little thaw 
during the day, a little frost during the night, and the streets and 
pathsimpossibly icy. Excessive fireworks at night frightens the birds also 
here, and I have as yet to see birds visiting my feeder in the garden this 
year, while they were constantly present before.

Not quite surprisingly, the first birds of 2007 were a large flock of Bohemian 
Waxwings flying over the garden at first light (which here and now is 10.45 
am!). They were soon followed by the ubiquitous Magpies and Hooded Crows, the 
dominant birds here in winter. A walk (slither, rather) through the Folkeparken 
added only Great Tits, and even on the Sandnessundet sound there were almost no 
birds at all visible (not even eiders today), so that we here only added a few 
Herring and Great Black-backed Gulls. The year list until now was rounded off 
by a lone Fieldfare in a rowan tree.
