I have about 3 water stations, they are place near to a scrub or bush
so the birds feel secure, they are also placed so I can see them from
my window and enjoy them.
I've thought of doing this too, but I thought I'd be extremely unreliable
refilling them so decided it would just end up being cruel.
Good luck with your watching, there are so many great areas so close
to Altona you are very lucky!
That's probably why I've only become interested in this recently. We never
saw much other than introduced birds when we lived in Footscray, although
that was probably partly because I wasn't looking for them. I was scanning
the next door neighbour's gum tree with binoculars for WPHEs while I was
having breakfast a couple of days ago and was surprised to suddenly have a
Straw-necked Ibis fill the field of view. That kind of thing keeps one
interested.
