A recent study, , observed
the same thing - each parent cares exclusively for 1 fledgling.
Maybe this behaviour is not consistent across Whipbird range or maybe
its an abnormal context - such as 1 parent dead.

Also just published from the same researchers is an explanation for why
Whipbirds duet - essentially the female is warning other females to stay
away from their mate:
