I spent today wandering around some parks in Hobart - my first birding
expedition. I took plenty of notes, but sure enough I can't find precise
matches in Simpson and Day for most of what I saw.

My notes for the parrots (Queens Domain) match the eastern rosella, except for
a yellow ring around the back (only) of their necks. Is that a local variation?
Not sure if they all had it. I only examined one carefully.

Also, what do you call the pattern on their backs? I just wrote "checked", but
it's really black feathers with yellow fringes. Does it have a proper name?
