Following up on a report by local David Marshall last week, I was able to
confirm today the presence of a juvenile Banded Lapwing near the carpark to
Comerong Island at Shoalhaven Heads.

The lapwing was seen on a grassy strip between the boat ramp and the kids
playground across from the caravan park. Apparently this was the same location
is was first observed last week.

Comerong Island (30/10/06):

Between 700-800 shorebirds are currently present at Comerong with large numbers
(100+) of the following:

Bar-tailed Godwit
Sharp-tailed Sandpiper
Red-necked Stint
Pacific Golden Plover

Highlights at the mudflats at Comerong included:

Striated Heron (1)
Grey-tailed Tattler (1)
Lesser Sand Plover (1)
Gull-billed Tern (2)

Other species observed included:

Great Egret
Little Egret
Red Knot
Pied Oystercatcher
Red-capped Plover
Crested Tern
Whistling Kite
Australian Hobby
White-fronted Chat

Regards,

Nigel Jackett
