I have observed the behavioural traits (flying together and the vocalisations) you have listed on several occasions although i have also seen these birds scatter on the odd occasion. Hope this helps and by the way could you tell those Grass Owls to make their way to the Gold Coast.

Yours Sincerely
Mr Jade Welch
Gold Coast,

Hi All,

Was out earlier tonight at Kedron Brook Wetlands near the Brisbane Airport,
and observed some very strange quail behaviour. Has anyone on the list seen
Brown Quail take off together, fly as a tight flock, and land together
before? I'm used to having them scatter in all directions, so this stood
out quite strongly. Also they were making odd chattering calls, another
thing I've never heard Brown Quail do in flight (and I've never heard them
make that particular call before).

ps. a couple of Grass Owls made an appearance once the sun had fully set, as
did several million mozzies.
