Gould did not include the Currawongs in the genus Cracticus - Butcherbirds - he put them in Strepera (still current). He did call them 'Crow-shrikes', along with Magpies and Butcherbirds. Incidentally, I have met many people who call Currawongs 'Black Magpies". One such old person disapproved strongly of 'Currawong' - "That's a blackfellow's name - you should speak English!" That was a long time ago, circa 1950s. (And before anyone jumps on me for using a racist term, I must add that I am quoting the original speaker! He always called Kookaburras 'Jackies' or 'Jackasses' too.
