Hi all,
Returned last night from a jaunt from Melbpourne to BJ with Laurie Living to
see GHL, which we did on Tuesday 19/9. The GHL was in places north and south of
the silos as previously reported. Being mid afternoon it wasn't initially
obvious but after some walking we found it. The other highlights at BJ were
the hundreds of Cockatiel and a Black Falcon overhead.
We also had quite good birding along the road from Coonamble to Pilliga. On the
return trip we had several hours excellent birding at Gum Swamp at Forbes. We
also visited the Wonga Wetlands at Albury and then later stopped at Chiltern.
At Bartley's Block at Chiltern we spent several hours looking for Painted
Honeyeater which we eventually found. The Painted Honeyeater(s) called
infrequently and were hard to see. The one we saw sat in mistletoe and was hard
to locate and see even after we initially sighted it. We believe we heard
several PH's over the several hours that we were there but only saw one. There
may have been two or three present. I would strongly advise anyone going for PE
to become familiar with its call as it was otherwise not at all obvious.
All up, from Melbourne to BJ and back, we had a trip total of 111 species.
