Hello Kevin,
Good to see this park near Melbourne receiving some birding
attention.
Bunyip State Park (Parks Victoria info.) ->
http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/1park_display.cfm
In regards to your Southern Emu-wren 'sighting', the atlas of Victorian
Wildlife (AVW) shows there to be a population of the species in this part
of the state. So it's quite possible that's what you heard. The species
inhabits swamp heathland and there are a number of walks in the park that
cross this type of habitat.
I can recommend the Bird Observer Club CD's of bird calls as a check of
the sounds you heard. SEWs do have a fairly distinctive call when you've
learnt it.
See the BOCA site for the Blue Wren Gift Shop in Nunawading (Melb.) ->
http://www.birdobservers.org.au/GiftShop.asp
I would encourage you to compile your sightings and forward them to my
colleagues for inclusion in the AVW fauna database. I can provide
recording sheets by email or post.
Feel free to contact me for further information.
cheers, Martin
