Dear all,
Barb Lake, Beth Williams and I went to Burren Junction on Friday morning (15
September). We stopped at the picnic table beyond the silos, did a scan
with the binos from the car without seeing the bird. We then got out of the
car and voila! the lapwing flushed from the ditch on our side of the railway
lines, calling in protest, circled a couple of times and went to ground on
the other side of the lines. We spent another twenty minutes searching -
Beth saw it fly from near the lines to the other side of the bitumen road.
We couldn't find it again. Is it coincidence that there are two Masked
Lapwings in the near vicinity?
Thank you Mike Carter for giving us contacts in Burren Junction. Brett had
been helpful although he could only say that his last positive report was
from the previous Friday, so we reported back to him after morning tea.
