I forgot to mention in my previous posting about the Capertee Valley,
a huge mixed flock of 14 species of small bird in dense angophora
regrowth at Brymair early on Sunday morning (10th). The species were:
Speckled Warbler, Weebill, Western Gerygone, White-throated Gerygone,
Buff-rumped Thornbill, Yellow-rumped Thornbill, Yellow Thornbill,
Striated Thornbill, White-throated Treecreeper, Brown-headed
Honeyeater, Eastern Yellow Robin, Sittella, Golden Whistler and Grey
Fantail.
On another note, regular visitors to the valley will be disappointed
to learn that Goollooinboin station have decided to stop offering
accommodation in their two cottages (Grove Cottage and Quill Lake).
However, Brymair, off Noola Road, is a great alternative offering
very reasonably priced accommodation suitable for a group of up to 8
in comfortable renovated shearers quarters. Brymair has been one of
the major tree planting sites in recent years as part of the Regent
Honeyeater project. The owners Bob and Di Page are great supporters
of the project and have devoted a large chunk of their prime land to
this; they deserve our support. The cottage is in a beautiful scenic
