Managed to snag myself a morning off work so took a quick run out to Low Isles
(off Port Douglas FNQ) to watch the Pied Imperial Pigeons heading east. I was
particularly interested in the number of birds flying into the Daintree Valley
compared to those heading due east. The Daintree Valley is north east of the
island and further to fly. There is obviously better food reserves to the north.
While I was there I also saw ;-
Osprey
Eastern Reef Egret (grey and white morph)
Varied Honeyeater
Silver Gull
Crested Tern
Unidentified tern
Beach Stone Curlew
Whimbrel
Collared Kingfisher
White Breasted Wodswallow
Welcome Swallow
Sacred Kingfisher
Bar Shouldered Dove
Australian Pelican
Ruddy Turnstone
Apparently the Beach Stone Curlews breed on the island, regardless of the
hundreds of tourists that visit every day.
