The migratory waders should be starting to arrive by now. I recall when
I was in Darwin 2 years ago, many were already there in mid-August and
the Little Ringed Plover which I did not get to see.

We should have Latham's Snipe by this weekend in NSW/VIC (it's usually
around the 2nd week of August when they arrive)!

I have seen some Tree Martins (my first summer migrants so far for the
season) around Newcastle a couple of weekends ago.

Time flies and it will be back to winter again!

On a delightfully sunny morning free from wind the WTP was at its best
and
my new replacement binoculars are wonderful!
All the usual attractions were enjoying low tide in the Bay, and ducks
were
plentiful on the long ponds.
First sightings for Spring were : 1 Godwit( Bar-tailed I think) near
the
145W Outlet, 3 Common Greenshanks, a Curlew Sandpiper in bright breeding
plumage(do you think he went to Siberia?) lots of Red-necked Stints and
many Curlew Sandpipers who may have wintered over.
The Musk Duck who keeps vigil was on the flow-regulator on 15E Main
Drain.
Gannets were diving and rafts of Pelicans, Silver Gull and Pied
Cormorants
were in the Bay.
Although the Zebra Finch were observed on Saturday none appeared today.

We did not get to 'T" Section nor the Spit. We had taken a local
Councilor
and a Council Officer and both were amazed by the beauty and the
abundant
bird life.
