Hi Matthew,

Hope your new hobby grows well and long on you. I suggest you join the BOCA and 
/ or RAOU (Birds Australia) - both based in Melbourne) to give maximum benefit 
to your learning and to continue this. The Pale-headed Rosella and the Eastern 
Rosella are very close relatives. From your description it would have to be a 
Pale-headed Rosella and being in suburban Melbourne would be an aviary escape. 
This is not uncommon for a whole range of parrots, finches, etc.
