Hi all and Rohan
Just arrived back from Burren Junction.. What a delightful place for
birds. The Cockatiels, Plumed Whistling Ducks, Apostlebirds and listening
to the beautiful song of the Pied Butcherbirds were all worth the trip.
Sunday around 8am. A special thanks to some kind folks who pointed
out to Ian the location of the GHL near the pile of rubbish and old tyres,
situated just beyond the grassy area where quite a few people have already
seen it. At the time I was off wandering the rail tracks searching at the
eastern end of the grain stacks and have no idea who they were..
After watching the GHL for about ½ an hour, it flew to where I had been
looking for it eg, about 30 metres on the eastern side of the fence
surrounding the covered grain. Other than preening and the short flight
across the tracks, the bird remained still in the warming sun?.it was a bit
nippy. A lovely bird.
On the return trip, at a gravel dump 22k?s south along the Pilliga Road, a
short wander after lunch added Plum-headed and Double-barred Finch,
White-backed Swallow, Dusky Woodswallow, Yellow Robin, Yellow-rumped
Thornbill, Brown Treecreeper whilst I heard Peaceful Dove, White-throated
Gerygone plus others. There had been a considerable amount of rain in the
area and the gravel dump had a few pools of water. The dump is on the
eastern side of the road.
A great trip except for a kamikaze kangaroo re-arranging the side of my
car?.the car came off second best as when we went to look for the roo, he
had disappeared.
Cheers and happy birding
Marlene.
