Frank O'Connor asked the question as to what the corvids might be/could be
at certain locations that he travelled through on a recent trip he made to
NSW.
The following is my guestimate in respect to his request:
Forster/Tuncurry/Krambach: The common corvid is the Torresian Crow however
Australian Ravens patrol the beaches and the Pacific Highway and odd pairs
of Forest Ravens could occur as they are found as far south as Myall Lakes
NP about 50 km south of Tuncurry
Burren Junction: The common corvid is the Australian Raven, but east of
Burren, the Little Raven occurs in the farming/cropping country and west of
Burren, but mostly beyond Walgett, the Little Crow occurs with Australian
Ravens in the pastoral country.
Gilgandra: Little Ravens are the commonest corvid but Australian Ravens are
dominant.
Capertee Valley & the Blue Mountains: Australian Raven predominates
although there may be Little Ravens in Capertee Valley.
Sydney and environs: Only Australian Raven but occasionally small flocks of
Little Ravens come into the Cumberland Plain west of Sydney but they are not
resident.
Currently the Torresian Crow is making a push south, previously c 1990 the
Torresian Crow's southern distribution was Port Stephens on the coast and
Gloucester on the lower slopes of the Great Divide, but since about 2002/3,
Torresian Crows are being found around Newcastle.
