But birds do have more sophisticated visual systems than we do - and we
have decent vision for a mammal. Also (of course) a seabird is likely
to have visual adaptions for the marine environment. This UQ paper has
horribly detailed info about Wedge-tailed Shearwater vision:

Definitely supports the point that an a seabird perception of the
sea surface may be quite different to ours.
