I believe that Isabelline does come from Isabella of Castile. She proudly claimed that she had only bathed twice in her life, once when she was born and once when was married. Pomanders were very popular if not essential in the Court of Ferdinand and Isabella. One can imagine that she was also not the fussiest person when it came the frequency of underwear changes and hence the colour, which I will leave to your imagination.
Such a pity to lump two quite pretty species of bird with the name.
