David Geering has asked me to forward this as
he's not currently on Birding-Aus. It concerns
two temporary (up to 16 month) positions based at
Lithgow and Inverell, NSW. The closing date is

ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION AND REGULATION DIVISION

Threatened Species Officer, 2 positions EPO Class
2-7, Biodiversity Conservation Unit/Environment
and Conservation Programs Section, North West
Branch, Environment and Protection and Regulation
Division, Lithgow/Inverell.  Temporary Full-time.
Advertisemen No: DEC06/336.  Total remuneration
package to $75,224p.a. including salary ($43,242
- $68,169).

Assists in the effective and efficient
performance of the Department's threatened
species conservation responsibilities, including
the provision of expert technical advice
regarding biodiversity and Threatened Species to
educate and influence the development of
conservation initiatives and agreements across
all land tenures.

Selection Criteria:
·        An understanding and experience in, the
recovery planning process, natural ecosystems,
environmental impact assessment, conservation
planning and ecology.

·        Knowledge of or expertise in one or more
of the target species: Xanthomyza phrygia (both
positions), Paralucia spinifera, Eulamprus
leuraensis, Epacris hamiltonii, Eucalyptus
copulans, Phebalium lachnaeoides and Microstrobos
fitzgeraldii (Lithgow position only)

·        Well-developed communication skills
(written and verbal), sound interpersonal,
liaison, negotiation, conflict management,
presentation, and group facilitation and mass
communication skills.

·        Practical experience in leading groups
and conducting environmental education
activities, with an ability to work in a team and
with a wide range of stakeholders.

·        Demonstrated experience in program
coordination, including planning, developing,
implementing, monitoring, evaluating and
performance reporting on community involvement
programs in environmental, natural resource, or
conservation management.

·        Understanding and experience of state
and local government incentive schemes.

·        Proven experience in the use of
databases and geographic information systems.

·        A willingness to travel in light
aircraft and assist in emergency situations is
required. A current drivers licence is essential.

·        Knowledge and understanding of Equal

Statement (EAPS). Knowledge and understanding of
Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S).
