Dear Birding Aus-ers,

I am seeking your help in locating and recording Osprey nests in NSW.

*Osprey Watch* is a *Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife* project building a picture of the distribution of nesting Ospreys across NSW. Launched on Friday 23 June, there has already been some new and exciting reports, with Osprey reported nesting in the Hunter Valley for the first time since 1984, reports of a nest in the upper reaches of the Macleay Valley, more than 100km upstream of the river mouth, and a nest on the Taree telecom tower that already has chicks out and testing their wings!.

The majority of Osprey nest on the mid and far north coast, however there has been an expansion of nesting activity in recent years, with Narrabeen (2005) the most southerly report.

There are a couple of ways you can help:

   *

     send in any information about nests by filling in a data sheet (if
     you know of nests from last year, but haven't been back this year,
     let us know and we will check them out)

   * indicate whether you are able to help confirm nesting records
     and/or monitor nests to provide information on approximate times
     of laying, hatching and fledging, as well as the number of chicks
     fledged;
   * help search in areas where nests are suspected (we've had reports
     from locals and boaties which need checking out, and perhaps
     require a bit of detective work).

If you live on the *south coast, *or *inland *of the coastal areas, we're keen to get reports of any sightings of Osprey during the winter breeding period to build up a picture of how far south birds hang out during the colder months.

*How to participate?
