Adrian et al.,

Do you ever see Wood Sandpipers in June up there in Broome? The team which
surveyed the Eastern Treatment Plant SE of Melbourne in my absence last
Sunday 25 June, (I was engaged on another trivial matter re some Lapwing)
logged a Wood Sandpiper. When I quizzed them, some wondered why believing
they frequently overwintered but one buckled under intense interrogation and
became hesitant re the ID. So I checked it out tonight. It is a Wood
Sandpiper in breeding plumage! I got some distant pics. The Atlas has no
June records for anywhere in Australia but a few in July hence the
'occasional in winter'. I reckon its the first winter record for Victoria
and would like to know its significance on an Australia wide scale.
