Andrew,
The Sibley Guide to Birds is currently recognised as the best field
guide for North American birds (and hence Montreal), with the National
Geographic Field Guide to The Birds of North America coming a not very
close second.

Hope this helps,

   G'day Birders,

As the topic appears to be on field guides, I was wondering if anyone
has information on a good one for Montreal and surrounding areas in
Quebec. I'm there for 2 weeks in July/August, so any information would
   be great.

   Cheers,
   Andrew.
