An interesting observation this morning - testimony to how successfully
Red Wattlebird has adapted to urbanisation.... I was just stranded in
heavy traffic on busy Dandenong Road (4 lanes) in St Kilda East
(Melbourne) and happened to look up and notice a pair of Red Wattlebirds
adding the finishing touches to a nest in a large Liquid Amber (devoid
of leaves). It was 5 degrees, middle of winter...
A strange sight to see this lone bundle of twigs in the middle of a
large bare tree....
Last Friday I heard the unmistakable calls of a newly fledged Red
Wattlebird. That's very early for here in Murray Bridge. I wasn't able
to follow up to find the bird as I was working at the time (as a relief
courier driver and I was pressed for time).
