Dear all

Spent the weekend working on a Mozart music festival in Taree and took a
tiny bit of time off to see what birds were around. Pair of Brahminy Kites
perched in Casuarinas on the small island to the east of the Manning River
bridge into town; and along the track heading east on the southern side of
the river, a pair of Collared Sparrow-hawks disturbing the small birds on
the roadside. At Old Bar Wallabi Creek the fig tree was still full of fruit
eaters, ie: 3 Wompoo Fruit Doves, Regent (one male busily chasing a female)
and Satin Bowerbirds, Figbirds, but this time no Catbirds in sight or sound
- could be because an NPWS guy was busily mowing the grass when we arrived
and shattering the peace of this little reserve - all the boardriders were
back at the beach. Out on the mudflats were 9 Bar-tailed Godwit, none in
breeding plumage, a scatter of Black-fronted Dotterel, one Mangrove
(Striated) Heron, a Whistling Kite and an immature White-bellied Sea-eagle.
There was also another small wader too far away to be securely identified.
