Just a note to confirm that the Scarlet-chested Parrots are still at
Gluepot.
We were there on Saturday and at 7.30 a.m., right at the Whistler Tank
"carpark", there were 8 or 9 birds with at least three males. They were
sitting openly in a tall tree quietly sunning themselves. I got a few
(fairly poor) photos before they flew off. Others have also seen them over
recent days.
Gluepot is in absolutely magnificent condition at present. There has been
good recent rain and the vegetation is "glowing" with lots of Mallee in
flower. There are no flies and the days are fresh but delightful. Freezing
cold nights, but who wants to go chase down that Boobook anyway!!
Other good birds we saw there included:
Pied Honeyeater
Black-eared Miner (almost certainly hybrids)
Red-lored Whistler
White-winged Fairywren
Splendid Fairywren - mating pair
Chestnut Quailthrush
White-browed Treecreeper
Hooded and Red-capped Robins
Regent Parrot
White-browed, Masked, Black-faced and Dusky Woodswallows
And there is a HUGE population of Striated Pardalotes there at present.
They were everywhere, together with the occasional Spotted.
