Greetings again from Seattle (USA).
I want to thank everyone again for all of the great information you shared
in response to my request in March. We are coming to your great country for
the first time this August for about 16 days, and are spending most of our
time up in Queensland. We are pretty well set for that part of the trip.
But I do have a few more questions, especially about NSW and the Sydney
area. We will only have about 3-4 days there, but we were hoping to just
get a taste of the area.
Many people recommended the Capertee Valley and the Blue Mountains, but I
didn't get a lot of specific recommendations about where to go. First a
dumb question - where exactly is Capertee and how do I get there? I had a
hard time finding it on the map. This area is also not covered in any of
the books I have. At Capertee or in the Blue Mtns in general: Are there
any specific parks, hiking trails, roads, or special areas that are
particularly good for birding? We're not looking for any particular
species, we were just hoping to see a nice cross-section of the local
avifauna. Does anyone have a favourite birding place in the area?
Also, are there any recommended places to stay while one explores the area?
We will likely only have 1-2 nights.
Our time in Sydney is also pretty short, and we are planning on visiting
Royal and Lane NPs, and the Royal Botanical Gardens. Any other can't-miss
places in/near Sydney? Does anyone have any recommendations for
accommodations near Royal NP? Or in the Sydney area in general near these
places (or near the airport)?
