Eagleby (half hour drive from Brisbane)

On early morning exercise walks I often see our local news-agent delivering
papers, and have noticed that these days very few residences have papers
delivered.

"And what has that got to do with birds?" you ask.

Just this: one can conclude that it's likely that a proportion of
Brisbane/Gold Coast bird-watchers won't have seen the half page account of
the Eagleby Wetlands in today's Courier-Mail (May 26, p. 41) written up by
Philip Hammond. To quote just one sentence:

"After a $3.5 million cash infusion and a lot of hard work by local
people over the past few years, a three square kilometre tract of low-lying
country is being turned into a high quality wildlife refuge."

So, if interested, get your copy of the May 26 C-M while the news-agents
still have them. Or -

"Listen to Philip Hammond talk about Eagleby Wetlands and view Mark
Calleja's photos at
                        news.com.au/couriermail

Cheers

Syd

PS Reckon the sub-editor (or whoever) boobed: titled one of Mark's photos
in the paper as "royal spoonbills take flight". I reckon they are coming in
to land: undercarriage down; wings in glide position; full flaps on.

S.
