Belinda,
I have seen flocks of a similar size to yours on regular occasions at a
friends place here on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Outside of his house I
have only seen flocks that size at the football fields which are near my
house in Carrara which is on the Gold Coast. It is interesting to see so
many of these birds at one time because usually when I see them they are
either in pairs or fighting with each other over territory.

Yesterday while driving towards Guildford I saw 30+ magpie larks sitting
together on the telephone lines, as well as many flying away from that
spot.
This is the first time I have ever seen magpie larks flock like this. How
common is this behaviour and why do they do it?
