Birders
I did the 9km Shaws Ridge/Blue Gum swamp circuit yesterday afternoon, for
exercise mostly, and a bit of birding. For non-Blue Mountains residents BG
Swamp is in Winmalee and part of Blue Mountains NP. Very few birding
highlights; it was late in the day and light made identification difficult.
Has anyone got a guide to "Undersides of Forest Birds that frequent High
Trees"? My most interesting observation was the sound of leaves being torn
off a tree and eaten. I scoured the tree tops for signs of life but could
find none. It was at the top of a VERY tall Blue Gum, and I saw the leaves
moving but couldn't get an ID. My best bet so far is a Koala, which
admittedly is not a bird, but I saw it on a bird walk, so it's going on my
list if it is. Has anyone recorded Koalas dowm there.
Also of note, was that the hill on the left side of the track, heading from
White Cross Rd to BG Swamp was hazard burnt on the weekend, which seemed to
influence bird numbers a little. I saw no birds in that area, but a few on
the other side of the track.
