In the Top End you'd have to include Leanyer, Palmerston (yes, there are crocs
in there as well), Broome and Derby.Wyndham sometimes gets a mention, but it's
very small and there was nothing much there when we visited.
In SA, the Goolwa ponds used to have a good reputation for crakes and rails (I
also saw my first Freckled Duck there),but I've not heard or seen anything
about it for a long time. The Clare sewerage works are worthy of a mention in
the boutique class.
Closer to home, most Sunshine Coast birders would nominate the Cooroy Wetlands
which are reliable for Pacific Baza and Rufous Night Heron, as well as the
occassional rails.Access is easy as there are no gates, keys or even fences
(not really a proper Waste Water Treatment Plant then, is it).
