Hi Birders,

A change to cooler weather and the extrensive flowering of Bloodwoods, Blackbutts and now Swamp Mahoganies, has seen some movement of birds to the Central Coast with a flock of 20 Swift Parrots seen flying of Carole and John Carpenter's property "MUrrumbung" at Mardi near Wyong on 21/4. Unfortunately they did not stop! However Yellow-faced and White-naped Honeyeaters are now moving to the coast on their annual auturmn migration and can be heard and seen passing over and stopping if there are eucalypts or banksias in flower! The movement of the Swift Parrots is a reminder that the autumn National Survey of Swift Parrots and Regent Honeyeaters will take place 14-15/5, so organisde yourself to take part in the survey!. Already Regent Honeyeaters have been reported from Munghorn Gap NR near Mudgee over Easter in addition to the Capertee Valley.

The Camphor Laurels are commencing to fruit and so there are plenty of Topknot Pigeons on the move too with 150+ at Tuggerah and 50+ at Ourimbah on 21/4 as well. Powerful Owls have been heard calling at John McLennan's place at North Bombi on 13/4, and at Summerland Point on 31/3.

An Osprey was at Gorokan, on the western shores of Budgewoi Lake on 12/4 while Hoary-headed Grebes, which also move into coastal estuaries at this time of the year were seen on Budgewoi Lake on the same day. Finally a pair of Bush Stone-curlews were seen at Henderson Rd Saratoga on 14/4, one of which was sporting a yellow coloui-band. This bird was most likely a runner banded at Woy Woy Tip two years ago!
