We visited Bruny Island, Southern Tas. a few weeks ago, and came upon a flock of around 70 WTNT's hawking insects over trees, and out over one of the bays. From the lookout where we were, we were often looking down on the birds. Very spectacular to see. Then, a couple of weeks later, I came upon small groups - 2-10 hawking insects low over agricultural paddocks and hedgerows around Cressy, in Northern Tas. Maybe the late autumn burst of flying insects has them flying lower than normal.

Hi Netters,
My sister Pauline reported 10 White-throated
Needletails at Lapoinya 15kms south of Wynyard. They were flying over
the trees then down to about 3mtrs above the lawn and then up over the
home. Pauline said it was good to see them so low to see how big they
were.
