Corellas and Galahs

A story was told to me last year at the Broome Bird Observatory by a person who years ago was doing a home stay with a farmer.  She, being a birdwatcher, was up early and went for a walk.  When she came back to the homestead, she saw the farmer with a full hessian sack and a pair of shears.  He reached into the very full bag, pulled out a live Corella, and cut its head off with the shears.  Obviously she didn't react well to this, and left the property soon after, however the impression she got from the farmer was that this was a regular event, and done in a matter of fact way to "protect the crops".

 

That story and the accompanying attitude still chills me.
