Hi,

Just wanted to send out a big thank you to all those who helped make my recent Victorian birding jaunt a wonderful trip. Many people provided information, directions and advice which assisted in finding many of the species on my wishlist. Particular thanks to the organiser and the leader of the pelagic for a fantastic day at sea. For someone who hadn't seen an albatross in Australia before, what a day to begin, hundreds of birds from 9 (or is that 10) taxa, not to mention the petrels, shearwaters, prions, storm-petrels and others.

Werribee was another treat and a massive thanks to those involved in getting us to see such a wonderful birding location.

It would be hard to pick a favourite bird from a 6 day period that took in Gippsland, the Dandenongs, the Great Ocean Road (advice for anyone driving to Port Fairy for a pelagic, the Great Ocean Road takes longer than you think, maybe take the highway!), a Port Fairy pelagic, Werribee, Rutherglen, Chiltern and the Alps, but it would have to be between seeing the sheer numbers and diversity of albatrosses, the Rutherglen Painted Snipe at very close range, or observing several Turquoise Parrots (accompanied by an Eastern Rosella for a nice size comparison) coming down to the water's edge to drink at Cyanide Dam.

Happy birding. Cheers, Pete
