Hi Birders,

My son Drew, Tourist Information Officer at Birdsville has been busy of late photographing some interesting birds around the town.

On 30/1/2006 at Channel-billed Cuckoo came into town while on 22/2/2006 a female Freckled Duck was hit by by a vehicle as it flew across the road, not doubt looking for the very scarce water. The Diamentina River has been dry these past months and the large Lagoon at the end of town is almost dry.

However relief for all the birds is in sight because on 3/3/2006, as a result of monsoon rains somewhere up north, the Diamentina River commenced to flow once again and now there is a good rush of water heading south towards Lake Eyre so hopefully all the lagoons enroute will fill again.
