Five days into autumn and already a few interesting birds are starting to move through Katoomba in the upper Blue Mountains (NSW). Yesterday I had a Mistletoebird move through (slightly unusual though regular in autumn), a Scarlet Honeyeater reported by a neighbour (a little unusual) and a Brown Quail found dead in a Katoomba garden (rather unusual at the location).

A couple of weeks ago while walking to the shops I heard the distinctive call of a Turquoise Parrot disappearing down the gully. Although a resident species at my Capertee Valley hideaway, at this location in the centre of Katoomba it would surely be an escaped bird.
