Good description Ricki.
I was at Ash Island today and thought I heard a White throated gerygone, but of coarse it was a mangrove gerygone. (around pole 22-21).

G'day G

I find that the Mangrove Gerygone has a much more uniform face than the Brown Gerygone which has quite a mottled whitish look about it.

I gather that you're familiar with the call of the Brown Gerygone - funny little mixture of squeeky notes. The best way to locate the Mangrove Gerygone is often by its call which compares fairly well to that of the White-throated Gerygone, though not as complex. It's a very musical series of descending notes sometimes referred to as the "falling leaf" call. You're almost certain to hear this charming chappie before you see it.

Hope that helps.

Happy Birding
