Dear Birders,
I've just been down to the Painted Snipe swamp (5km south of Rutherglen) and
have some
interesting news. While the first birds reported were a group of sub-adult
birds (18th of January),
tonights visit has revealed a group of 7 birds with a stunning female specimen.
The water in their
patch of swamp has been receding quite rapidly and I have been expecting them
to move on any
day, but now their numbers have increased! Other wetlands in the area are also
disappearing with
the summer heat so I suppose they could be 'gathering' before they head off
together. Any
information on the habits of this classy wader?
Cheers, Matt Weeks
