Hi all
As I casually wandered onto my local beach [Koonya,
Mornington Peninsula NP, Vic] this morning to check on 'my' Hooded Plovers I
encountered a Peregrine Falcon feeding on the beach less than 40 metres away
from me.
"Oh my god what is it eating?" I though as my
heart thumped away. "Is it the 4 week old Hooded Plover
juvenile?"
I slowly calmed down and sat on some rocks
nearby. When my hands stopped shaking enough to hold the binoculars I
could see that it was feeding on a very freshly killed Silver Gull. What a
relief!!
However even though the HP parents were still
behaving as if they still had an unfledged juvenile, I did not see
it. I am hoping and praying that it wasn't entree for the
Peregrine.
