Hello all,
 January was particularly hot and it has been very quiet birding in this
district and on our property. For example it is four weeks since we have
heard or seen a Red Wattlebird and there have been very few Pied Currawong
in the same period.
 However some things are happening and this short report might be of
interest.
 On our property, successful late(?) breeding of many species is evident;
Superb Fairy-wren (males are losing their colour) and Red-browed Finch young
are noisily chasing adults for food everywhere; several immature Grey Shrike
Thrushes and Rufous Whistlers are begging as are Magpies and Galahs. I saw
a pair of E. Yellow Robins yesterday with 3 dependant young and a Weebill
built a nest last week and is now on the nest.
Very young Hoary-headed Grebe and Black Duck are on nearby dams.
 Bee-eaters which were scarce earlier in the year have been here in small
numbers on most days in the last five weeks. Often they have been heard
flying high overhead but about half the time they have also been seen,
although still quite high. This week some have been lower and some feeding
and perching has been observed. Many of these birds have been young so
hopefully their numbers have built up this season.
