Thought I should share my latest GPS story with fellow GPS users (?).
Went to use my Garmin GPS 12 the other day, for the first time in a couple of
months, put the batteries in, fired 'er up and it wandered aimlessly trying to
"autolocate".
I removed the batteries and took the unit for a drive in the car, plugged it in
to the cigarette lighter socket and it worked fine.
Well, almost;
Its memory was no longer in existence.
I've lost the GPS positions of all of the camp sites and birdwatching spots
we've marked for the last five and a half years, all 386 of them!!!.
Took it to the Garmin people today but they weren't able to retrieve them..
They advised me that because I hadn't been using it regularly, the unit's
rechargeable internal Lithium battery had gone flat, wiping the memory clean.
They recommend using the unit every couple of months to keep the internal
battery charged up and therefore avoiding wiping the memory.
