Hi birders

Just back from a few days work at Lake Mokoan in NE Victoria near Bendigo.

One Fork-tailed Swift seen above Welcome Swallows, Tree and Fairy Martins, Dusky and White-breasted Woodswallows on 24 January 2006 about 8:30pm. Fine and hot - just seen by chance whilst looking at the lower flying birds - odd to see just one.

Other Mokoan highlights included Australian Little Bittern (2 sites), Australasian Bittern (1 site), both heard only - a group of 90 Freckled Ducks including males in resplendent breeding condition (bright red faces) - Intermediate Egrets in breeding plumage - breeding Brown Quail - 2 Plumed Whistling-Ducks - LOTS of Latham's Snipe - a small rookery of Little Pied and Little Black Cormorants (c. 30 nests all up) - lots of raptors.
