hi all
forgive the late posting. i have lately taken to kayaking on the brisbane river
(brisbane qld) to try to keep fit. around dusk last weds i had close views
(<10m) of an osprey perched in a tree by kingsford-sith dr hamilton,
unperturbed by the heavy traffic and me bobbing below it. the bird was still on
the same limb the following morning as i cycled by on my way to work but i
haven't seen it since.
other sightings along my route (hamilton reach and breakfast creek) in the past
few months include:
darter
LB cormorants
pelicans
silver gulls
mangrove herons
reef egrets
cattle egret (in flight only)
crested terns
caspian tern (nearly had a prang chasing that one)
red-necked stint (1 on a pylon in brekky ck)
wood ducks (breeding colony behind offices on breakfast ck)
pac black ducks
mangrove warblers (brekky ck mangroves, heard only)
welcome swallows
not bad for the middle of busy city.
