The more I observe my local Koels, the more amazed I am.

 

Female Koel has learned where the Grey Butcherbirds have their larders and
"butchers hooks".    If she is around when they are foraging, as soon as one
of the butcherbirds takes its bounty to the eating spot, Madam Koel chases
them off then eats the catch!    I can't always see what she steals, but it
certainly includes praying mantis pieces and other "meaty" things.   I
thought they were strictly fruit eating once they were adult.

 

Life with the Koels is always a learning experience!
