Hi Birders,
Like Mike Carter I too was left a bit non-plus about the 2000 Sooty
Shearwaters (but no Short-tails!) seen during the sea watch. I would also be
some what wary of "1-2 light phased Wedge-tailed Shearwaters". In this part
of NSW light-phase Wedge-tailed Shearwaters are a rarity, they are rarely
seen on offshore pelagic trips and even though I now live beside the sea at
Bateau Bay, where WTSW are common summer birds I have never seen one from
the shore. The only one that I have ever seen was found in a burrow on North
Solitary Island, off Wooli, northern NSW.
There are only two confirmed records for Grey Petrels in NSW.
