Hi all
Was able to see and get bodgey photos of 4
Yellow Wagtails at the Darwin (Leanyer) Sewerage Treatment Plant ponds yesterday
morning. Also got Black Butcherbird in the mangroves behind the ponds.
Earlier on in the morning got Chestnut Rail,
Fork-tailed Swift and Black Butcherbird at Buffalo Creek boat ramp at first
light.
Back at Numbulwar been able to see 2 Great-billed
Herons quite easily on the Rose River early in the morning last weekend and was
surprised when 4 Red-necked Avocets flew past because they are not common or
rare up here. Good numbers of waders are around but I havent found their
high tide roost yet. Most waders are the usual suspects such as Common
Greenshanks, Common Sandpipers, Grey-tailed Tatlers, Marsh Sandpipers,
Whimberels, Eastern Curlew, Sharpies, Curlew Sandpipers, Black-winged Stilts,
Sanderling, Great Knot, Pacific Golden Plovers, Red-necked Stints, Greater and
Lesser Sand and Red-capped Plovers at the moment.
A pair of Barking Owls have successfully reared a
young in the bush behind my house and was able to watch the young one being
harrassed by the resident Large-tailed Nightjar really early last Saturday
morning (5.11.05) when the barking owls calling woke me outside my bedroom
window.
Large, end of dry season flocks of Red-winged
Parrots have been coming into town to feed on garden trees too.
