Hi Birding-aussers,
My thanks to Mark of "North Head Bird Surveys" and Mike Tarburton. They
indicate coucals can fly at least 300 metres in level flight and suggest
this is how they get across open areas.
I am going to do some more research in HANZAB and the new atlas but must do
this via a third party as I lack either. If I learn anything new I will get
back to the list.
Those of you believing that I am understating coucals mobility and who have
access to the large Readers Digest "Complete Book of Australian Birds"
should read the first two paragraphs of general text on page 327. This seems
to describe a clumsy bird which has to work hard doing just about anything.
Bruce.
