OK Now that I've got your attention, I'd like to point out that this subject
header is important, and not something trivial I dreamed up to make you read
this message. Well, it might be trivial in THIS case, but if there WAS a Grey
Falcon in Geelong, this would be the best way of announcing it to all our
readers.
Tom Celebrezze has made the very worthwhile suggestion that all reports of
unusual or interesting sightings carry a Subject header in this format:
STATE - Region - Species
We still have far too many very useful reports that are (a) hard to track down
in the archive and (b) possibly misleading because they don't announce
themselves clearly enough in the Subject line. In Australia we tend to recycle
placenames, so announcing "Grey Falcon in Newtown" could cause undue excitement
here in Geelong, if the bird was actually in Newtown, Queensland (where they
have two of them, in Toowoomba and Ipswich - not sure which has the Falcon).
So it makes sense to announce your local rarity using STATE (Initials are fine)
Region - Species. It would be great if we could get used to a standardised
format.
