All of the field guides (well, I can't speak for
Slater - I haven't checked that one) show the Port Lincoln ringneck
(zonarius) as having a yellow belly and no red forehead. The
28 Parrot (semitorquatus) has a fully green belly and a red forehead
patch.
I've been paying more attention to these birds and
have noticed - at least in my area - that many of them have a yellow
belly AND a red forehead patch.
And thus I am confused. What's going on
here?
I've also noticed in the last 9 months the
White-cheeked honeyeaters seem to have taken over whereas the
garden used to be New Holland honeyeater dominated. When I left in
February there were many altercations between the two species going
on.
